Quick - guess which metropolitan area (with a minimum of 1 million people) has the lowest unemployment rate? Birmingham-Hoover metro area’s jobless rate is nation’s lowest for big cities
I am celebrating my 15th year in Birmingham. My colleagues around the country looked at me a bit askew when then learned I was moving here. After all, the only politically correct prejudice in this country is prejudice against the Deep South (Alabama and Mississippi.)
Birmingham is a wonderful place to live. Interesting, my former city comes in second.
Birmingham’s 2.7 percent jobless rate in October displaced previous national leader Richmond, Va., whose jobless rate fell from 3.2 percent in September to 3 percent in October.
Hiring managers and employers say Birmingham has benefited from a diverse economy and the strong job market in Alabama, which had the sixth-lowest unemployment rate among the states last month.
Life is good here in the Deep South!

“Life is good here in the Deep South!”
As a physician licensed in both Mississippi and Alabama, I agree 100%.
