I have been taking Nexium for alomst a year now. Have not had any problems with the medication. The doctor has not followed up with any further testing for ulcers. I have a flare-up only when I go on a spicy food binge.

Nexxium worked immediately and completely for getting rid of my acid reflux. When I took Prilosec, it really bothered my stomach for two days then I felt some relief, and the OTC crap didnt do anything for me. I havent had any side effects whatsoever with Nexxium sofar but feel better than I have in years.

I've had chest pains and upper back pain for over 3 months and after a positive barium test for acid reflux was prescribed nexium 40mg 2x a day + 10mg reglan 1x a day, After 2 weeks still having chest pain and back pain was given a mammography and 24ph test both showed neg. 3 weeks later still on nexium had sudden severe gastritis. Doc doesn't know what caused it. Wonder if it was because i was on such a high dose of nexium for so long. Doc did an endoscopy and saw no signs of acid reflux so now says stop taking.

Nexium works great for me but I've noticed a 10 pound weight gain in the two months since starting it. I don't do anything different than I did before but my doctor says "exercise more." I walk a fair bit. Frustrating.

nexium once a day healed my esophagitis from gerd when prilosec did nothing. However, I am holding out on the hope that if I loose the 20 lbs I,ve gained in the last two years, maybe I won't need it.

Nexium has worked for me better than all of the OTC drugs and prilosec combined. It is a pain to have to take a drug every day, but I can eat and sleep in comfort again. Let them make their money, they earned it.

I would like to know if there is any benefit or harm in taking advice from a physician that it is okay to take Nexium twice a day and also 10 mg of Metoclopramide twice a day. It seems like overkill to me. aag@wideopenwest.com

I have been taking nexium and have not had any of the problems mentioned by others. It is the only thing that has helped me with my heartburn. But I also do not want to have to take this for the rest of my life. I had never been given any kind of test to even check for ulcers. I was just told that treatment is the same and we do not test anymore. I had to argue with them in order to get a barium test done. I do not understand how the doctors can prescribe this without checking you out. A friend of mine had a similar problem and her doctor tested her and found her positive for h.pylori and she was treated and has not had a problem since with heartburn or acid reflux. My doctor tells me that h.pylori is not associated whatsoever with this. After doing internet research I see that h.pylori is associated with ulcers that can eventually lead to acid problems in the stomach which eventually can lead to heartburn and acid reflux. So what is the deal. Are we just supposed to take the pill forever and not question any further? If anybody has any better insight please let me know. My husband has suffered from this for years and I did not develope the problem until after we were together and I have found out the h.pylori is contracted from person to person from someone who is infected. It can be passed through kissing. It sounds to me like most of us could have been exposed to this at one time or another. But getting someone to test for the bacteria is a little harder to do.

Hi..after reading some of the comments, I can say that we all have the same problems; doctors giving you a pill and not following up with treatment. I had several things wrong at the same time, and when Nexium didn't fix the problem, I was assumed to be depressed and had chronic headaches, so I was treated for depression instead of stomach problems and guess what, nothing got better, after 4 years of being more depressed and having nausea so bad, I lost my job, and couldn't work...so I finally changed doctors and found out that I had 3 different types of ulcers and were hard to detect, so finally I did get some releif, and I was given nexium without follow up and had terrible headaches. The nausea is releived but now other problems, doctors will not admit that the medication is just about as bad as the cure, and if you complain about systoms that are controling you, instead of the other way around and you want the doctor to do something, it's the same thing; your depressed, you have too much stress and then they send you away to someone else with out figuring out what the problems are, that quite often the doctor creates with the medication that he gives you. What do you think????Judith
