Happy Thanksgiving

I have so many reasons to be thankful today.

My entire family is at my house – a son, daughter, son-in-law, 2 grandsons and of course my wife.  This alone makes Thanksgiving special.

I am thankful that I work at the Birmingham VA.  Our VA is rated #8 overall in the VA system, and #1 for inpatient satisfaction!  I am privileged to participate in our patients' care.  Our patients are wonderful men (and occasional women) who need our help, and are very grateful for the care they receive.  Thinking about the patients we have cared for over the past 2 weeks, I recall men who really enjoy helping.  These men did honorable work during their service time, and we try every day to repay them with high quality health care.

I am thankful for great colleagues, wonderful interested residents, and enthusiastic medical students.  They make my vocation also an avocation!

Finally I am thankful for the many readers and commenters on this blog, and followers in Twitter.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.
