As I continue my weight loss (started November 1), I chose a simple plan. I increased energy expenditure (exercise) and decreased energy intake. This time I do not have a diet plan, rather I am trying to decrease my calorie intake modestly most days. I still go out to eat with friends and colleagues, and sometimes eat a big meal.

Ultimately, yes, this is true; however, imho, the best results happen when you add glycemic index and blood sugar to the mix… cut out processed carbs like white rice/bread and eat 6 meals a day.
Because while it is true that (decreased calories in) – (increased calories out) = (wt loss), by being cognizant of the ebb and flow of your blood sugar, and making really simple substitutions, you can optimize/further augment the (increased calories out) part of the equation significantly and essentially effortlessly…
