The quality portfolio

Back during my SGIM presidency – 2006-7 – we started an academic hospitalist task force.  This group quickly focused on defining the important issues for the growing number of academic hospitalists being hired across the country.  A major concern for that group was the documentation of the work that many hospitalists (and a growing number of outpatient physicians) do to improve health care quality.

The work group now has published QP 1.0 – Quality Portfolio Introduction.  This site provides the rationale and download links for the QP and a sample QP.

While the group started with academic hospitalists as the main concern, clearly many others who do quality work will benefit from this effort.  I mentioned outpatient physicians already.  Community based hospitalists usually do quality work at their hospitals.  They too should keep track of their QP as a part of their resume.  The QP would likely help them if they sought a future position.

Please provide any feedback on this idea.  I will copy the authors of any comments.
