I received this email –
Hey, I am a writer for Business Week Magazine. I am doing research on medical credit scoring – I am using the term loosely – at the point of hospital intake and how it may be affecting care. Love to talk to you about this. Is there a number I can reach you on. My number is 312-233-7944. Thanks, Robert Berner
I had not heard of medical credit scoring. Apparently it is a method for hospitals to figure out whether or not you are likely to be able to pay prior to admission. Has anyone heard of this positively or negatively? Robert Berner would love to talk to anyone who is familiar with this phenomenon.

Why encourage a concept that threatens to discrimate patients on the basis of their ability to pay ?
I’ll bet the vast majority of hospitals most concerned with Medical Credit Scoring are Not For Profits. Is “Non-Profit” an oxymoron?
I’m just amused that I can call Mr. Berner and ask him personally!
The Happy Hospitalist mentions this contact in a recent post of his:
http://thehappyhospitalist.blogspot.com/2008/07/are-you-dumping.html
I blogged this today as it is something I have heard discussed before and that gets misconstrued alot.

a former mucky muck from tenet (need i say more) is developing this credit score to “improve” billing practices…
I work for tenet as a nurse and i wouldnt trust a present or former administrative official’s integrity as far as i could throw it if it was even had to be thrown.
