Another example of the law of unintended consequences, once again from our friends over at the <a href="http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/13/global-warming-and-the-minefield-of-unintended-consequences" rel="nofollow">New York Times</a>, this time regarding clean-burning biofuels and efforts to slow global warming.

Great entry on the unintended consequences of requiring interpretation services. What happens in my community is that when people call & the receptionist suspects they can't speak English well, is that these clinics just say they are closed to new patients. My clinic is the biggest Medicaid provider in the region. We don't routinely schedule interpreters and just try to get by with family members & friends. While this isn't technically the best way to do things and may be illegal, we have no choice. If we provided interpretation services for all our patients we would go bankrupt. Then where would all these patients get their care? You just gotta love unfunded mandates!
