I Just finished reading Tracy Kidder's book, "Mountains Beyond Mountains, the story of Dr. Paul Farmer and his work in Haiti and other places in the world. According to this book, we can thank Dr. Farmer and his organization, PIH, for his role in getting WHO and other organizations to accept new treatments for multi-drug resistant strains of TB and for encouraging the drug companies to lower the cost of providing these treatments for poor, third world countries.
