No medical content this afternoon. The hurricane came and went. We did also. This morning, sans electricity, we left Birmingham and came to Atlanta. Here we have the 3 essentials of modern life – electricity, cable and internet access.
Fortunately, Birmingham avoided any deaths – we specialize in inconvenience.
For those readers who have never visited Birmingham, it sits at the foothills of the Applachian mountains. Thus we have rolling hills with many trees – especially oak and pine trees.
7 inches of rain and 50-60 mile an hour winds leave trees very vulnerable. Our major damage in Birmingham was fallen trees. Leaving early this morning, we saw trees on power lines and trees in the road. Much of the city is without power. Many roads are impassable.
So we will clean up the city for next week. I hope that we all have patience. Our recovery will take time.
We are fortunate that the damage was not worse. The panhandle of Florida (Panama City to Pensacola) and the Gulf Shores area of Alabama were not so fortunate. They have major damage and loss of life (in Pensacola especially).
So db is well, and happy to be back on the internet. Thanks for all your kind comments. I will think more about medicine in the near future. Currently the weather has all my focus.
