Interesting healthy eating

OK, the USDA thing

looks reasonable. Now tell me how I and the over 100 others living in this building accomplish this when the only allowed cooking instrument is a microwave (no toaster, let alone toaster-oven) and no access to refrigeration?

Yes, we are the exception rather than the norm, but do you see why we read some of these things for entertainment rather than use? I am one of the lucky ones, I managed to hang onto my computer when I had to stop working and I spend my $10 on phone access rather than beer. Of course, my hard drive is making funny noises...

Ah, well, I do have a roof over my head and heat in the winter, for which I am bloody grateful (I spent some time trying to live in a car with bucket seats), but it is human nature to want better.
